Lesley on Houndstooth nails

I wanted to add an edge to yesterday's nails so added a half houndstooth design onto my nails. This is the first time I've ever used my Models Own 'nail art pen' other than dots so its a bit messy, however i like this design and think with a little more practice it will look good and it will look cute on other colours such as pink.

Lesley on Snow White nails

I had my nails manicured two weeks ago at a salon and as the acrylics started to grow out i wanted something different on my nails before i took them off. I decided to go for Model's own 'Snow White,' I've never had pure white nails before and they remind me of when i used to Tippex my nails at school but they look bright and clean and makes a nice change to the colours i normally go for. Also, i had many compliments on them today which of course is a bonus.

Excuse the messy application, even though i was in a rush, i still tidied them up with a cotton bud... but the camera still caught the bits i'd missed!

Smash Up Pink

This is my 2nd type of crackle polish, i have the black China Glaze. This Models Own is soo much easier to use: the polish is so smooth and thin compared to China Glaze. You don't have to worry about overlapping the pink and it not crackling because it's so thin. I've also tried the black version and it's just as good. My only thing was, i thought it would be opaque but it's quite transparent if you paint it too thin. I painted it over blue and got purple, i liked it but just wasnt expecting it. I want to try the silver smash up next.

I recently received my four nail polishes from Models Own in their 50% off sale. It would have been £20 but i paid £10, not including £2.95 P&P... absolute bargain! I think these are the perfect colours for the seasonal change from Summer to Autumn.

L-R: Gun Grey, Snow White, Slate Grey and Gold Digger

Gun Grey - This is a very shimmery dark grey - almost black, with silver glitter. The name is perfect for this shade as it really is a Gun Grey. I like this because its not as harsh and gothic as black sometimes can be. It catches the shimmer in different lights really well. I've got it on my toe nails and it looks very pretty.

 

Snow White - I went to America back in May, and on the plane i saw a girl with white nail polish, i thought it looked so pretty and complimented her look with her white jeans, and wanted it for myself. I think white is quite a daring colour to wear as it is really bright and draws attention to your nails, so i want to wait until my nails are longer to wear this. The first application was a little streaky, but it is quite expected and the second coat was good and dried quickly. I also love the originality of the name, its so cute! This is more of a spring colour to me because it looks clean and fresh. I am going to use as a base to create polka dots and different experiments.

Gold digger - Gold digger is a yellowy metallic gold. This is so easy to apply, very smooth and needed two coats. It really reminds me of the colours of Autumn and I'm excited to try this on my nails as i think it will look very glamorous on my toes.

Slate Grey - When Slate Grey arrived i didn't really think much of it. It looked like concrete grey in the bottle. However, on the nail it looks amazing! It looks more like a creamy nude beige with slight purple undertones than grey. When it comes to nude colours, i am so critical (see my nails inc post) so i surprised myself to how much i really like this. It only needed one coat to be opaque, but i put on two out of habit before applying Sally Henson's 4-in-1 top coat. However, after applying two coats and a top coat i thought it had dried pretty quickly but tried to open a box and smudged my thumb, so maybe one coat is really enough. I wore this on a night out and couldn't stop looking at my nails! I think it makes my nails looks very neat and tidy and can be worn with anything and everything.

Sophia's Leopard print nails!

I saw this style on the WAH nails site ages ago and have been loving it ever since. Some people think it looks tacky but i love it. It's fun and i promise it's easy to do. All you need is your base colour, the colours you want for the dots, a cocktail stick or dotting tool (makes it easier) and a nail art pen or black liquid eyeliner. simple

Im going to use my boyfriends nail to show you how to do achieve this look because ive already painted my nails. So just incase you think i have man hands, its not me lol. All nail polish is Models Own in the post.

So my boyfriend chose (well...i made him choose lol) Feeling Blue for the base and i chose Jade Stone, Pastel Pink and Lemon Meringue for the blobs.

After your base coat has dried a bit you simple blob dots onto the colour. They dont have to perfect round dots. They can diferent shapes and sizes. Just go for it. You can either get a newspaper/old plate and put a big drop onto it and dip the dotting tool/cocktail stick in or i just undo the the polish and dip the tool onto the brush. I find Models Own drys fast, so leaving a dollop on paper/plate makes it go stringy.

When your finished wth the dotting tool your nails will look something like the picture on the left. Now the leopard bit. Wait til the dots are almost dry or tacky otherwise they will smudge or drag. Take your nail art pen or liquid eyeliner and draw around the blobs doing thin semi circles. You dont need to go all the way around. Again dont worry about it being neat. My WAH nails pen has gone watery (boo!) so thats the why the middle blob is thick. If you think you dont have enough leopard dots you can do random semi circles and squiggles/dots just on the base colour. Easy!!

Done!!

Ta-da!! If you used a liquid eyeliner always use a top coat otherwise it will wash right off. I love wearing this on my toes and like decorating my friends toes with this design. Its easy and fun...&maybe a bit tacky ;)

Pretty!!!

My first time using a dotting tool! I think it turned out ok except the dots are not all the same size. I just need more practice.

I used Models own Nude Beige and Utopia!

Sophia's China Glaze - Crackle Glaze

I love this! I was unsure about the crackle nail varnish at first but this was the first time I gave it a proper go.I just made sure I applied a thin coat of the black polish once the under colours had completely dried. If it's a thicker coat the black splits into thicker pieces and you cant see much of the other colours. I might try that another time though.

I love Models Own nail varnish! They have a 101 differnt shades from blues, greens, pinks, matte shades, crackle polish, glitter etc. They cost £5 each but they do deals quite frequently. You can buy from www.modelsownit.com,  River Island and certain Boots stores!

Bubblegum and Champagne

Bubblegum is a highlighter bright pink. Its quite matte, so I prefer it with a top coat. My favourite pink!

Champagne looks like gold leaf on your nails! It has tiny specs of glitter so it's very smooth. Very shimmery and shiney, gorgeous!

Nude Beige and Pastel Pink

Nude beige is the perfect....beige lol A darker beige than other nude colours but I think thats why I like it. Perfect if you dont want a bright colour.

Pastel pink = Opaque baby pink perfection!

Utopia and Pink Fizz

Utopia is a strange colour. I'd call it a very pale purpley grey. I wear this colour the most.

I couldnt capture the 'pinkness' of Pink Fizz. In some lights it looks silver! It's so good for a glitter polish, only two coats and my nail fully packed with glitter!

Lilac dream, Beth's Blue &Top Turquoise

Lilac Dream is a pretty pastel purple.

Beth's Blue is another pastel shade. Look's really good on both pale and tanned skin.

Top Turrquoise looks more green in real life. It's super shiny and bold.

Lesley on Nails Inc

I recently purchased my first two nail varnishes in an exclusive duo set on sale from asos for £8.32 which i thought was quite reasonable. Haymarket is a duck egg blue and Basil Street is a toffee beige, 10mls.

Basil Street = epic fail

Basil Street: I was quite excited to receive this colour as i really wanted a creamy light beige colour. The colour reminds me of the drink Baileys, mmmm! However, i was horrified that the first coat resembled the colour to my skin tone and i looked like i was ill! Also, its quite watery but dries quickly and even, so the formula is actually quite good. The second coat was a bit better and made my nails opaque. However, it still matches my skin colour and kinda reminds me of wearing natural skinned tights haha, and after the third coat (i didn't need it though) it was still the same. I'm going to wait until my tan fades to try this colour again, although i am a little bit disappointed that i cannot wear it in the summer!

I tried it under Models own black 'Smash Up,' and i have to say i like it much better than on its own. it looks like a black crackily effect over natural nails.

Haymarket: This is an absolutely gorgeous bright torquoise colour and applies like a dream. It only needed one coat and was not streaky, but i added two coats anyway out of habit. With Sally's i applied a top coat and it dried very quickly. What a difference in opinion from Basil Street! I was a bit put off from Nails Inc after Basil Street but now i am willing to try more colours.
